The Queen goes Green
This was the title above the article in the English tabloids about the new water power station at Windsor Castle.
On the River Thames, at the Romney weir, two powerful Landustrie hydropower jacks provide a special energy supply. Not only do they supply power to around 400 households, but also to the nearby royal palace.
A great example of how traditional heritage and sustainable technology come together.
Renewable energy, fitting into the landscape and respecting nature

Windsor (UK)

ECS

Hydropower

What we delivered
For this project, we supplied two hydropower jacks with a diameter of 4 metres and a length of 6 metres.
What makes this project unique is the 5-aisle design, where normally 2 or 3 aisles are used. Thanks to this design, higher yields are achieved at relatively low drop heights.
Nature has also been considered: the jacks have been designed to be fish-friendly, leaving fish migration in the Thames unhindered.
Why this solution?
- Sustainable energy generation
- Low civil costs
- High efficiency
- No noise pollution
- Fish-friendly
- Short payback period
- Long service life
