Energy-saving upgrade of existing aeration system
At the wastewater treatment plant of a French meat processor in Quimperlé, the existing surface aeration system was due for replacement. The existing aerators were nearing the end of their technical service life and no longer met the organisation’s ambitions in terms of energy efficiency and sustainability. The challenge was to modernise the aeration process without making major alterations to the existing plant.
Sustainable retrofit of surface aeration results in energy savings of more than 25%

What we delivered
For this project, we supplied two Landustrie surface aerators, type Landy-7, with a power rating of 37 kW. Thanks to the retrofit design, the new aerators could be installed directly into the existing aeration basin, meaning no civil engineering work was required. The installation was carried out without interrupting the treatment process.
The new aerators operate using a time-controlled aeration programme that is tailored to the process conditions and the high level of contamination in the wastewater from meat processing. This has not only improved oxygen transfer but also optimised process control.
Why this solution?
- Higher oxygen transfer
- Lower energy consumption
- Lower operating costs
- Optimal control of the aeration process
- A smaller carbon footprint
