Smart retrofit surface aeration
At a French company in the paper and board industry, the wastewater treatment plant was still operating with outdated surface aerators dating from 1998. These plastic aerators consumed a relatively large amount of energy and were no longer in line with the paper mill’s sustainability and efficiency targets. The challenge was to significantly reduce the energy consumption of the aeration process whilst further optimising process performance.

What we delivered
For this project, we supplied five Landustrie surface aerators, type Landy-7. The new aerators were specially designed to connect directly to the existing gearboxes and the existing bridge. This meant that no costly structural modifications were required.
The aerators are controlled by oxygen sensors and a time-controlled regulation system, which ensures that the oxygen supply to the tank is continuously optimised. A specialist diving team was deployed to remove the old plastic aerators. Due to the enclosed concrete structure, dismantling them was no easy task.
Why this solution?
- Energy savings of more than 20%
- Increased oxygen transfer
- No disruption to the aeration process
- Lower operating costs
- Reduction in CO₂ emissions
