Features
The Landustrie hydropower screw operates based on a proven natural principle: flowing water sets the screw in motion. Positioned at an inclined angle in the direction of the river flow, water enters the screw automatically. The combination of head (potential energy) and flow (kinetic energy) starts the screw’s rotation.
This rotary motion is transmitted via a gearbox to a generator, which generates electricity. The larger the head or flow rate, the more energy is generated. The power generated can be used directly locally or fed back into the grid.
Thanks to its relatively low rotational speed (20-50 rpm), operation is quiet, fish-friendly and low maintenance. The system also operates at varying water levels or flow rates and maintains its efficiency even at only 20% of the design flow rate.
