De Dommel (NL)

In spring 2016, construction started on the new hydropower plant in river Dommel near Sint-Michielsgestel (North Brabant). On 13 September 2016, the existing weir in the river was fitted with a Landustrie hydropower auger that will generate renewable energy for about 200 households as a power generator.

The hydropower plant is an initiative of Bram and Jan Taks of Energiecoöperatie Dommelstroom and was financed through crowdfunding.
The hydropower auger has a diameter of 4 metres and a length of 6 metres. This is a semi-compact auger installation in a self-supporting metal trough where the generator and gearbox are placed on a separate concrete foundation. Fish are not affected by the auger.
