Hydropower screws

We are all familiar with the traditional application of augers where water is pumped from a low to a high level. The latest sustainable application of the Landustrie auger involves the auger as a means of generating energy using hydropower. When water flows down through the auger at a decline, the rotation of the auger starts. With application of the right drive and adjustment of the discharge point, energy can be generated with this rotational movement. The auger can be used as a generator even at very low water fall.

The advantage over other energy sources is that the power of water is available 24 hours a day.

In the Netherlands, the first hydropower auger with double function applied in the Wilhelmina Canal near Tilburg. This double function means that the screw pump is used both as a generator and as a pump. Outside the Netherlands, dozens of installations have already been realised by Landustrie.
